Treasure the Memories

He left us too quickly. Suddenly. As if it really was in the twinkling of an eye. One step on the sidewalk, the next one on the golden streets in Heaven. It is hard to wrap my earthly mind around this, but Roger's favorite Bible stories were about Enoch, Elijah and Elisha, so maybe this exit should not surprise me. I know God is faithful and that Roger believed that God numbered our days from beginning to end and in living every day fully and completely. He loved God. He loved people. I don't want to forget the lessons he taught me by living it. So I write.

Following the footsteps

Little Clones
It was tough, but they are tough. It was primary election day in Precinct 129. For Roger, that would have meant that we were at the polls at 7 AM SHARP. He never missed an election, not even if there was only one item on the ballot.

I can't figure out this voter fraud thing though, the one about dead people voting. Roger was removed from the voting rolls within one week. Go figure. He was one of their very best customers too!

The kids were not asking for votes, but were doing their part to get their favorite Congressman on the upcoming ballot. They did what their grandpa (Ro-Ro) did, they talked to people. We found lots of people who really looked forward to seeing Roger out there on this election day, and some who were shocked, and some who cried.  I guess we did our fair share of shedding tears too. So many days, it just does not seem right...or real.

These precious kiddos can't quite fill Roger's shoes yet, but they surely are making a great attempt at following in his footsteps. They not only learned about the political process while spending time with him, but they also got some great experience in talking to people, looking them in the eye and sharing what they believe with confidence, and even directing others to the website where they can find out information on their own.   Plenty of adults can't do that!

Roger's lesson:  Know who you are and what you believe but more than that, WHO you put your faith in.  It makes all the difference.

I got two signatures and the kiddos did the rest. But it was a step in the right direction!
